Populus deltoides

Native to riparian (water side) bottomlands through state, best planted in same due to high water needs, largest sizes in East Texas. Perfect by stock tanks. Very fast growing, tall shade trees, lush foliage with distinctive "rustling" in summer breezes, showy white mottled bark, good gold fall color. Valuable to wildlife. Best sited away from buildings, large root system ideal for holding together banks but not so much near pipes.
