Ulmus crassifolia

Native deciduous tree common through much of state; widely adaptable, and can grow well in lean soils, heavy clay soils, and are extremely drought tolerant once established. Keeps a "tennis racket" shape that is nice for residential planting, fits well into suburban and urban lots; good street tree well adapted to reflected heat. Host plant to several native butterflies, native bee late summer to fall nectar source, wildlife food source.
