Gleditsia triacanthos

Beautiful, round crowned shade tree with lacy foliage, casts pleasant dappled shade in hot summer months. Showy cream spring flowers attract pollinators, host plant to several native moths & butterflies, seeds attract wildlife. Native to eastern through central part of state , may struggle in heavy clay soils but will do well in particularly well drained locales as well as those with fast draining sands and limestone soils. Drought tolerant once established, but fine with seasonally moist soils, adaptable to conventional watered lawns to low water natures capes.
