Diospyros texana

Widespread across much of the Central and Western Texas, this small tree features strikingly attractive white bark at maturity. Edible black fruit in summer attract wildlife, inconspicuous spring bloom pollinators. Larval host plant for several butterflies. An ideal plant for wildlife which grows into an attractive, multi trunked tree with age. Best in well drained areas, from rocky to clay soils; very drought tolerant once established.
