Arbutus xalapensis

Growing in moist areas of canyons on thick deposits of decomposed Juniper needles, this Texas tree is often considered our most beautiful. Striking red inner bark revealed as older white bark strips away, with lush green foliage, white spring blooms followed by red fruit. Limited as a landscape plant by its growing needs, for those not blessed with a perfect limestone canyon perhaps a well drained pot would suffice.
