Aquilegia canadensis

Found in central Texas northwards through the Blackland prairies in woodlands, this pretty columbine has lacy blue green foliage topped with tall spikes of red and creamy gold flowers in spring. Needs well drained, but moist, conditions to thrive. May go summer dormant in dry locales. Mulch well to help keep roots cool & moist but don't smother plant. Reseeds self, avoid deadheading especially towards end of bloom season.
